Neil Armstrong
My thirteenth summer found my brother and I drawn to the television in the Brooklyn home of my grandparents.
A couple of space brats, we felt a bit cheated watching a man land on the moon for the first time from Sea Gate instead of our Brevard County, Florida home (also home to the Cape) but watch we did, Neil Armstrong take one giant leap for mankind.
My brother and grandparents have passed on to those very heavens, leaving me behind as the lone summer Atlantic Avenue witness of a moonscape viewed from the plastic-scape of my grandmother's sofa.
For them and for myself, I bid Neil Armstrong safe travels.
