Did you hear? Florida Gov. Rick Scott resigned due to medical illness! 

Well, actually he didn’t, but a rumor generated by a satirical post caused a frantic buzz in Tallahassee this morning. Chatter from lobbyists and other politicos soon traveled over phone lines and emails, even making it to some media outlets as an unconfirmed tip. 

The confusion came from this headline: Florida Gov. Rick Scott Steps Down Citing Medical Reasons, attached to an article in GlossyNews.com. The tipster who got the first tongues wagging may have only read the headline, and failed to notice that the article was satire, written to poke fun at the governor. The following is an excerpt from the article on the GlossyNews, an entire site “dedicated to engineering the perfect satire.”
